BOVINA — Texas area girls prep basketball teams continued their solid starts to the season over the weekend, with Bovina and Muleshoe improving to 3-0 while Farwell posted its second win in two starts.
After giving up 21 second-quarter points, Bovina found itself trailing 30-24 at halftime at home on Saturday. Then the Fillies stormed back with a 27-7 third-quarter surge to down Anton 63-44.
Junior Alyssa Martinez led Bovina with 14 points, while also reaching double digits for the Fillies were Makaylah Luna with 11 and Pilly Saenz with 10. Anton’s top scorer was Andy Alonso-Rivera, who posted 10 points.
Farwell 64, Happy 30 — At Happy on Saturday, sophomore Chloee Whitten led a balanced attack — nine players scored — with 17 points, and the Lady Blue turned the game into a rout by outscoring the Cowgirls 25-9 in the third stanza.
Junior Jaelyn Smith added 13 points while freshman Bella Jaime had three of Farwell’s 11 3-point baskets and finished with 11 points. Whitten and Smith each knocked down a pair of trifectas.
The top scorer was for Happy (1-1) was senior Ashlyn White with seven points.
Muleshoe 39, Springlake-Earth 30 — The Lady Mules built a 10-point halftime lead and survived a two-point third quarter to beat the Lady Wolverines (1-2) on Friday night at Earth.
Senior Natalie Ambriz posted a team-high eight points for Muleshoe, followed by senior Kendra Kelsey and junior Kayla Soto with six apiece. Springlake-Earth senior Sayler Beerwinkle posted a game-high 11 points in a losing effort.
