Pages past, Dec. 1: Dora teachers on the mend

On this date …

1946: Three Dora school teachers, en route to an education conference in Albuquerque, had been hospitalized after their DeSoto crashed into another car on wet pavement on the Clovis highway.

Jessie Lott, the car’s driver, was in Clovis’ Memorial Hospital recovering from two fractured ribs and a spine injury. Irene Wall suffered a fractured pelvic bone and was recovering at her father’s home in Portales. Audra Morrison was recovering at her sister’s home in Rogers; she suffered no broken bones and was expected back at school soon.

The teachers’ vehicle careened into a Chevrolet driven by Don Hofman, according to The Portales Tribune. Hofman suffered cuts and bruises and was recovering at his parents’ home in Dora.

Both cars were badly damaged in the accident.
