Bovina girls grab three at Adrian

ADRIAN, Texas — Bovina’s girls completed a sweep of a four-team, weekend round-robin event on Saturday with a 47-20 victory over Groom.

The Fillies (7-2) won twice on Friday, edging Amarillo-based San Jacinto Christian Academy 48-46 before rolling over Lazbuddie 67-27.

Junior Alyssa Marquez scored 19 points in Saturday’s tilt. Bovina led 15-5 at the quarter and steadily pulled away from the Lady Tigers, who were led by junior Ali Friemel’s eight points.

In Friday’s action, Marquez had 13 points and senior Naveah Liscano chipped in eight as the Fillies squeaked past San Jacinto, which got 11 points from senior Audrey Lane. Senior Pilly Saenz had 12 points, sophomore Destiny Lara 11 and sophomore Aaliyah Garcia 10 in the win over Lazbubbie.

In other area girls tournament games on Saturday:

American Heritage Bank tournament — At Melrose, the host Lady Buffs fell in the tourney finals to Clayton 49-41. The Lady Jackets (3-0) built a 15-5 first-quarter lead, riding 17 points from sophomore Emerson Beiland and 11 from junior Lauren Montoya to the victory.

Sophomore Graci Odom paced Melrose (2-1) with 15 points.

Grady (3-1) captured fifth place in the event by beating Hagerman 36-28, with sophomores Shayla White and Taylor Foote collecting 13 points, respectively. The Lady Bronchos led 9-2 at the quarter and kept the Lady Bobcats (1-2) at bay the rest of the way.

Senior Isabel Flores scored seven points for Hagerman.

J.P. Stone Invitational — Logan claimed the championship of the six-team event, downing the host Lady Coyotes 46-36 in the finals.

Dora (3-1) outscored the Lady Longhorns in every quarter except the second, when Logan took control of the matchup with a 22-4 surge for a 16-point halftime cushion.

Senior Reece Goldston scored 16 points and senior Kyra Conway 14 for Logan, while Dora got nine points from senior Brynn Dillard and eight from sophomore Bre’ann Rodriguez.
