Five local players notch state football honors

ALBUQUERQUE — Five local athletes were honored Monday with seven total selections on all-state football teams.

The New Mexico High School Coaches Association released all-state teams this week for Classes 3A through 6A and six-man. The association had not released the Class 2A and eight-man all-state teams at press time.

Two Portales players made second-team in Class 4A, with Braydon Mignard selected at defensive end and Dylan Looney picked as an offensive lineman.

A pair of Clovis players were honorable mentions on the Class 6A squad — senior R.J. Nora at receiver and senior Manny Bustillos at inside linebacker.

The all-state six-man team featured three Elida selections, and all of them were Jesse Woodruff. He was a first-team offensive lineman, and a second-team selection at defensive end and tight end.
