ELIDA - Clovis High's junior varsity claimed the girls championship in Elida's Tiger Invitational on Saturday, beating Dora 45-37 in the finals.
No one reached double figures for the Lady Wildcats (6-1), but eight players scored, led by eight points each from junior Amanda De La Rosa and sophomore Aja Gonzales. Clovis opened a 21-13 lead in a high-scoring first stanza, and carried a 41-26 lead into the final segment before the Lady Coyotes (6-2) put together a late push.
Sophomore Faith Jasso led all scorers with 19 points for Dora, while junior Breann Rodriguez had 11.
In the third-place matchup, Reserve posted a 70-42 win over Grady.
Senior Naomi DeLaO led the Lady Mountaineers (6-1) with 27 points, including nine to help her team build a 39-17 halftime lead. Senior Hailey Baca followed with 15 points and junior Shaylee Padilla tossed in 12.
For the Lady Bronchos (4-3), sophomores Shayla White and December Garcia notched 18 and 10 points, respectively.
Melrose claims third place - Coming off a narrow defeat to Class 4A Roswell Goddard in Friday's semifinals, Melrose notched third place in Moriarty's Alice King Invitational on Saturday with a 44-20 rout of Aztec.
Juniors Isabelle Sena (13) and Sorrell Allen (12) combined for 25 points for the Lady Buffs (3-2), who opened a 19-0 lead at the quarter and were never challenged by the Lady Tigers (1-4).
Senior Araceli Huaracha was Aztec's top scorer with seven points.
