Music festival gets monetary boost

CLOVIS — The Clovis Music Festival is still six months away, but the 2022 event got a major budget boost on Wednesday.

The Clovis Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, by a voice vote, passed a $65,000 budget increase which organizers plan to use to add a third night to the festival.

The festival, which is again separate from Draggin’ Main, is scheduled for June 16-18. The festival still has 38 Special as its June 17 headliner, and organizers are planning a family faith concert June 16 with Danny Gokey and a Latin music night June 18 with La Maquinaria Nortena.

Chamber President Laura Leal said even by conservative estimates the festival should easily recoup its expenses with La Maquinaria Nortena, which drew 3,500 fans at a recent show in Muleshoe.

The group was nominated twice for the Grammy Award for best regional Mexican music album with Ya Dime Adios in 2015 and Generation Maquinari Est. 2006 the following year.

The concert series has been postponed the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The increase moved the festival’s 2022 budget to $169,200.

The June 16 concert will be held at Legacy Church, while the Curry County Events Center will host the June 17 and June 18 concerts.
