Farwell starts fast in 74-29 rout over Longhorns

LOCKNEY, Texas — Farwell opened a 23-8 lead at the quarter and put three players in double figures in a 74-29 trouncing of Lockney on Tuesday night.

Senior Leo Nunez led Farwell (8-1) with 18 points, while seniors Juan Gaxiola and Grayson Waldrop knocked in 15 and 11, respectively. For the Longhorns (8-4), sophomore Nathan Hernandez scored 12 points.

Muleshoe 73, Bovina 40 — Senior Jeremiah Barron led a balanced Mules attack with 15 points, while sophomore Sebastian Kirven scored 14, junior Irvin Torres 13 and senior Abraham Mendoza 10.

Muleshoe (4-5) built a 44-26 halftime lead, then pulled away with an 18-4 run in the final stanza. Juniors Darian Delarosa and Caesar Amaya led the homestanding Mustangs (3-8) with eight and seven points, respectively.

Elida 77, San Jon 8 — At Elida, the overmatched Coyotes (0-3) were limited to one basket in each quarter and the Tigers roared to their eighth win in nine outings.

Twelve players scored for Elida, led by seniors Rylan Creighton with 16 points and Gavin Hartman with 10. Junior Tristian Reed had four points for San Jon.

In girls action on Tuesday night:

Muleshoe 65, Bovina 41 — After falling behind 17-6, the Fillies played Muleshoe even 18-18 in the second period before the Lady Mules pulled away.

Junior Kylie Hernandez had 15 points for Muleshoe, followed by 14 from junior Araceli Diaz and 12 from senior Kayla Soto. Junior Alyssa Martinez topped Bovina (8-6) with 15 points, while senior Pilly Saenz tossed in eight.
