ANSON, Texas — Both Farwell squads finished third in a tournament hosted by Anson on Monday and Tuesday, and both teams earned a pair of all-tournament selections.
In girls action, the Lady Blue (19-3) won twice on Monday, then lost to the host Lady Tigers 61-54 in Tuesday’s semifinals before coming back to beat Iowa Park 59-36 in the third-place clash.
Against Anson, Farwell cut a 15-point halftime deficit to two with a 22-9 blitz in the third quarter, but the Lady Tigers (15-5) pulled away again down the stretch. Freshman Matte Dollar led Anson with 16 points while seniors Gracie Reagan and Regan Jones added 15 and 10, respectively.
For the Lady Blue, freshman Makylee Baldwin scored 18 points and freshman Bella Jaime had 16. Jaime and junior Charlie May Trimble and made the all-tournament team for Farwell.
In a 46-33 win over Lorena late Monday, Baldwin led Farwell with 18 points. The Lady Blue trailed 21-20 at halftime, but took control by outscoring the Lady Leopards (13-8) 17-7 in the third stanza.
Lorena’s top scorers were senior Tristin Currey an sophomore Avery Harris, each with nine points.
Meantime, Farwell’s boys (14-3) also lost in Tuesday’s semifinals, dropping a 57-46 decision to Sweetwater, before coming back to pound Anson 60-26 for third place. Cousins Leo and Adrian Nunez represented the Steers on the all-tourey contingent.
Senior Brendin Atkins scored 19 points, junior Chris Avila 12 and sophomore Stason Hernandez 11 for Sweetwater, which erased a three-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Steers 20-9 in the third frame. Leo Nunez and sophomore Corey Stancell each had 10 points for Farwell.
Meantime, Leo Nunez posted 19 points and senior Grayson Waldrop 12 in the victory over Anson, in which Farwell built a 17-point halftime cushion. For the Tigers (5-9), senior Mason Hagler and junior Wyatt Phillips each had nine points.
