Lockney outlasts Mustangs in OT

BOVINA — Lockney tied the score with a last-second basket, then dominated the overtime period to hand Bovina’s boys a 57-48 loss on Friday night.

The Mustangs (3-9) erased a five-point deficit through three quarters and had a late lead in their first game since Dec. 14. Senior Josh Barretera scored 13 points and senior Austin Rodriguez added 10 for the Longhorns (11-7), while Bovina was paced by 11 from junior Darian Delarosa.

Farwell 71, Ralls 46 — Seniors Leo Nunez and Grayson Waldrop and sophomore Corey Stancell all scored 13 points while junior Adrian Nunez added 12 as the host Steers (17-3) pulled away in the second half, breaking open a five-point game by outscoring the Jackrabbits 35-15.

For Ralls (7-3), seniors Ryno Garcia and Chris Luna collected 24 and 11 tallies, respectively.

In girls action on Friday night:

Farwell 79, Olton 44 — At Farwell, the Lady Blue (20-4) opened District 3-2A action with a decisive win, outscoring the Lady Mustangs 20-3 in the second quarter for a 23-point halftime cushion.

Eight players scored for Farwell, including four in double digits — junior Charlie May Trimble with 18 points, freshmen Landri Richey with 15 and Makylee Baldwin with 13, and sophomore Kennedi Richey with 10. For Olton (5-9, 0-1), junior Kylee Noack had 14 points and juniors Olivia Cox and Makenly Smith finished with 11 apiece.

In another 3-2A opener, Bovina (8-8 overall) dropped a 73-31 decision at Ropes. The Lady Eagles (20-3) dominated the middle two stanzas 44-14 to take control.
