On this date ...

1962: Medical issues were fair game for gossip columns in the newspapers 60 years ago. This item is from “Up and Down the Street” in The Portales News-Tribune:

Everett Inge, who is under treatment in the Roosevelt General Hospital for a broken leg he received when a horse fell with him received a card from a close relative who also has a broken leg and is in a Roswell hospital.

The card was inscribed “From one Leg to Another.”

The relative was Red Ussery who was suffering from an old break that he received when he got caught in a feed grinder some time last year.
