OLTON — Farwell’s girls trailed early on Tuesday night, but it didn’t last long.
The Lady Blue erased a one-point deficit at the quarter by outscoring Vega 44-15 over the middle two stanzas en route to a 71-43 District 3-2A win over the Lady Mustangs.
Freshman Bella Jaime led four Farwell players in double digits with 18 points, including three of the team’s seven 3-pointers and 5-for-6 from the foul line. Freshman Makylee Baldwin had 12 points, junior Charlie May Trimble 11 and sophomore Chloee Whitten 10 for the Lady Blue (21-4, 2-0 district).
For Vega (7-5, 1-1), senior Dakota Walker tallied 14 points and junior Kami Drinnon added 10.
In other girls action on Tuesday:
Olton 52, Bovina 48 — In another District 3-2A matchup, the Fillies carried an eight-point lead into halftime but were blitzed when the host Lady Mustangs (6-9, 1-1) erupted for 23 points in the third canto, including five of their 10 3-point baskets.
Junior Kylee Noack led Olton with 19 points, while junior Alyssa Marquez scored a game-high 23 for Bovina (8-9, 0-1).
In boys tilts on Tuesday:
Clovis Christian 65, Floyd 36 — At Floyd, the Eagles (9-2) extended their winning streak to nine games, opening a 26-4 lead at the quarter and never looking back.
Juniors Noah Gershon with 19 points and Carter Teune with 18 led the way for the Eagles. Meantime, the Broncos (2-11) were paced by 14 points from freshman Adrian Quirino.
Ralls 76, Bovina 45 — At Ralls, the Mustangs got off to a strong start and led 19-13 after the first period, but it was all Jackrabbits after that.
Senior Ryno Garcia scored 20 of his game-high 33 points, including 6-of-7 free throws and four of his five 3-pointers, in the second stanza, accounting for all but two of his team’s points in the period as Ralls (8-3) opened a 35-29 lead. Garcia finished the night 10-for-11 from the foul line.
Senior Chris Luna added 19 points, getting 15 of them in the final quarter. Meantime, the Mustangs (3-10) were paced by 14 points from senior Angel Lara and 11 from junior Darian Delarosa.
Valley 45, Farwell 34 — The host Patriots outscored the Steers 16-5 in the third quarter to break open a three-point game.
Junior Corbyn Standlee scored 12, senior Chance Pigg had 11 and freshman Eean Hartman added 10 for Valley. Farwell’s leading scorer was sophomore Corey Stancell with 12.
Dimmitt 59, Muleshoe 34 — In a District 3-3A matchup at Dimmitt, the host Bobcats (12-6, 4-0) got off to a 20-10 lead at the quarter in turning back the Mules.
Junior Irvin Torres scored 14 points for Muleshoe (5-8, 1-2) while senior Brennan Davis added nine.
Games called off — Two New Mexico area doubleheaders were postponed due to COVID-19 concerns on Tuesday night — Texico at Jal, rescheduled for Jan. 31, and Melrose at San Jon, rescheduled for Feb. 14. Also, a girls game sending Grady to Floyd was canceled.
