LUBBOCK — Sophomore Marta Pascoa highlighted Eastern New Mexico University performances with a second-place finish in the women’s mile run in the season-opening Corky Classic track meet, hosted by Texas Tech on Friday and Saturday.
Pascoa, an exchange student from Portugal, posted a personal-best time of 5 minutes, 26.04 seconds in the Saturday event. ENMU senior Aminata Kenyawani placed sixth in the same event, clocking 5:32.60.
In Friday’s competition, senior Malethabo Seema ran third for the ENMU women in the 400 with a time of 1:00.65. The top three finishers in that race were within a second of each other.
Seema’s sister, Lethabo Seema, placed fourth in the women’s 1,000, finishing in 3:15.30.
On the men’s side, the lone ENMU athlete to place in the top eight was junior Kelvin Kipkemboi, who was sixth in the mile run on Saturday in a t ime of 4:34.46.
The Greyhounds are slated to travel to Albuquerque for the Dr. MLK Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, hosted by the University of New Mexico.
