MULESHOE — Senior Devin Hines scored 28 points Friday night and Brownfield remained in a tie for the District 3-3A lead with Dimmitt after a 54-44 victory over Muleshoe.
Down 32-24, the Mules (5-11, 1-5) held the Cubs (9-13, 6-0) to just seven third-quarter points but managed only eight of their own. They were unable to make a run at it in the final stanza.
Sophomore Sebastian Kervin led Muleshoe’s attack with 17 points.
Farwell 92, Bovina 36 — In a District 3-2A matchup, the visiting Steers opened a 30-10 lead at the quarter and stayed in command the rest of the way behind 19 points from senior Leo Nunez.
Senior Juan Gaxiola added 16 points and sophomore Corey Stancell 13 for Farwell (20-4, 2-0). For the Mustangs (4-12, 1-2), senior Israel Granados scored 17 points.
In girls action on Friday night:
Farwell 84, Bovina 36 — At Bovina, the Lady Blue held the Fillies to eight first-half points in a District 3-2A matchup.
Junior Charlie May Trimble led four players in double figures for Farwell (23-4, 4-0 district) with 18 points, while freshman Kennedi Richey and junior Jaelyn Smith both scored 13 and freshman Bella Jaime added 12. That quartet combined for nine of the Lady Blue’s 11 3-point baskets.
Junior Alyssa Marquez nailed a trio of 3-pointers and finished with 18 points for Bovina (9-11, 1-3).
Postponement — Floyd’s District 4-1A boys game at Gateway Christian in Roswell on Friday night was postponed due to COVID concerns in the Warriors’ program. The contest has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. on Jan. 31.
Girls teams did play, with Gateway taking a 59-12 win over the Lady Broncos.
