Clovis student musicians win six soloist awards

Clovis student musicians came away from solo competition with six outstanding soloist awards, three from the Clovis High School Freshman Academy and three from CHS, according to a Clovis Municipal Schools press release.

They competed Feb. 5 in the Southeastern New Mexico Music Educators Association’s Instrumental Solo and Ensemble Festival held on the campus of Portales High School.

While 29 soloists from the Freshman Academy came away with “superior” ratings, the three outstanding soloists were Quinn Culiver, French horn; Jaydyn Chapman, clarinet; and Liliana Chavez, flute. The Freshman Academy band’s director is Dustyn Crane.

CHS reaped 70 superior ratings, and three outstanding soloists, including Ethan Wheeler, trumpet; Caleb McKenzie, percussion; and Francisco Rodriguez-Bryant, alto saxophone. The CHS band is directed by Bill Allred, Susan Davis and Juan De Leon.
