A Grady woman died early Friday in a wrong-way collision on Interstate 40 east of Tucumcari.
According to a news release Monday from New Mexico State Police, the accident at 12:38 a.m. killed Kayla Corrales, 27, of Grady.
According to the press release:
• Corrales was driving a Chevrolet pickup west in the eastbound lanes of I-40 when it collided with a Honda Pilot sport-utility vehicle going east near mile marker 340.
• Corrales was airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, where she died of her injuries.
• The Pilot’s driver, a 25-year-old woman, was taken by emergency personnel to a hospital in Texas, where she was in critical condition.
• Four other passengers in the Pilot — a 29-year-old man, a 22-year-old man, a 26-year-old man and a 2-year-old child — were taken to a hospital for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
