Newcomer on ballot for Parmer judge

Political newcomer Izzy Carrasco is the Republican who’ll be on the ballot this November for county judge in Parmer County.

Carrasco, a former Texas Department of Public Safety officer, beat longtime County Sheriff Randy Geries, 801 votes to 602, in Tuesday’s primary election.

Will Anderson, who dropped out of the race to support Geries after ballots were printed, received 47 votes.

In other Parmer County contested races:

For Parmer County Justice of the Peace Precinct 1: Rhonda Wilkins won with 370 votes to Joe Lafuente’s 260.

For Parmer County Commissioner Precinct 4: Casey Russell is the winner with109 votes to John O’Brian’s 65.

For Parmer County Commissioner Precinct 2: Charles Wilkins won with 206 votes to Gene Schueler’s 177.

In Bailey County’s Republican primary, Basil Nash won the county judge position on the November ballot.

Bailey County Deputy Clerk Mary Espinoza reported that Nash received 460 votes to Sherri Bessire Harrison’s 414.

The only other contested race in Bailey County was for County Commissioner for Precinct 4. Espinoza said Jim Daniel won that race with 49 votes to Shorty Drennan’s 19.

The results are unofficial until certified by the Texas Secretary of State.

There were no Democrat party primaries at the county level in either Parmer or Bailey Counties.
