On this date …

1967: Clovis High School wingback Wayne Hallmark had been named to the High School All-American football team by the Coach and Athlete magazine. The team was picked annually by high school coaches, college recruiters, sports writers and broadcasters.

Hallmark was also an outstanding basketball player. In his senior year he scored 172 points, breaking Tommy McDonald’s previous school scoring record of 151 points.

He recently won the 100-yard and 220-yard sprints at the Eastern New Mexico Relays at Portales.

He also had been named Clovis High School’s homecoming king and senior class favorite.

Hallmark went on to play three seasons of college football at Oklahoma State University.
