CRSMA to raise its meal prices next month

The cost of having lunch at the Curry Residents Senior Meals Association is going to go up next month.

Area residents have been able to have a meal at the CRSMA Center at 905 W. 13th St. for $3 if they are 60 or older, $6 if they are under 60.

“That changes May 1,” Cherie Davis said. Davis is the CRSMA program director. “The cost goes to $4 if you are 60 or older, $8 if you’re under 60.

“I’ve had some people complain,” Davis said, “But really, it’s still a pretty good price for what you get.

Davis says only 30 percent of the CRMSA’s funding comes from a combination of state and federal funding.

“The rest we have to come up with through our meal sales or donations,” Davis said.

Davis is working on sorting through the expenses and financial records of the 501 (c) (3) organization because of the recent passing of CRMSA’s bookkeeper, Vilinda Wilson.

“We took a hit because of COVID,” Davis said. “Our customer base dropped. It is coming back up but we still need help.”

The organization also provides meals to qualified homebound seniors.

Davis, her staff and volunteers have recently started a drive to try and secure a base of regular donors to the organization.

In a news release Davis wrote that what can be given in return is a fully qualified tax deduction.
