Job fair to recruit youth for assistants, lifeguards

A job fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday will recruit assistants for the city of Clovis new Summer Youth Program and lifeguards for the Clovis Aquatic Center.

The job fair will be held at the Clovis Aquatic Center, at 1700 E. Seventh St., Clovis.

Tauree Curry, recreation administrator for the city, said the Summer Youth Program plans to hire 10 program assistants to guide children age 5 to 11 in education and recreational activities from June 6 to July 29.

“We’re looking for people who have had experience with children in summer camp, daycare or recreational programs,” Curry said, “and who will bring energy into the programs.”

The summer youth program, Curry said, combines outdoor environmental education on topics like wildfire and animal species found in New Mexico, with sports and recreational opportunities like relay races and arts and crafts.

Lifeguard applicants, Curry said, should be at least 15 years old and have a swimming certification. Those who are hired will receive training for lifeguard certification, he said.

The Summer Youth Program, funded in part by the New Mexico Outdoor Equity Fund and the city of Clovis, will be held on weekdays for eight weeks from June 6 to July 29, according to information on the city’s website at http://www.cityofclovis.org/summer-youth-program.

The programs will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, with a 30-minute drop off time before each day’s activities begin and 30-minute pickup time daily after program activities.

Lunch and snacks will be provided each day, and field trips will also be organized throughout the summer.

A seasonal program coordinator will be responsible for the overall planning and implementation of the program, with the help of the program assistants and other staff from the City of Clovis.

Applications are due no later than May 13.

Application forms are available online at http://www.cityofclovis.org/summer-youth-program or picked up in person at the Roy Walker Recreation Center, 316 W. Second St., Clovis.

Since qualification for the program can be based on income, applicants are asked to attach a copy of their most recent tax return, with sensitive information blocked out, to verify income and dependents, according to information on the website.

Cost of the program will be $30 per week per participant. Participants will be asked to bring $40 to the first session to cover registration costs.

More information is available on the website or by calling Curry at (575) 763-9678.
