CANYON, Texas — Two Eastern New Mexico University athletes attained top-five marks in program history as the Greyhounds competed in West Texas A&M’s Jo Meaker Classic and Multi track meet over the weekend.
Posting top-five marks were sophomore Marta Pascoa, who placed second in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 11 minutes, 46.12 seconds in her first time running the event this spring. It’s the fifth-best time in the Lone Star Conference so far this season.
On the men’s side, junior Kelvin Kipkemboi accomplished the same standard, posting a second-place time in the 10,000 at 31:33.83, the fourth-best in ENMU history and a top-five LSC mark this spring.
Other top performances for the women included a second-place finish by sophomore Dorcas Kosgei in the 5,000 with a personal-best time of 18:08.81, while senior Aminata Kenyawani came in second in the 10,000 at 39:24.28 and junior Arianna Hayde was second in javelin at 104 feet, 11 3/4 inches. Kenyawani and Hayde were also competing in those events for the first time this season.
Senior Lethabo Seema placed third in the 1,500 in 4:55.60, while her sister Malethabo was fifth in the 800 with a personal-best mark of 2:14.0-4, the third-fastest clocking in the LSC this spring.
In other field events, junior Tamia Smith threw a personal-best 123-11 3/4 for sixth in discus, and finished eighth in shot put at 40-11 3/4.
ENMU squads will be idle from competition this week, returning to action April 22-23 in the New Mexico Junior College Invitational at Hobbs.
