Local choirs win big at contest

Clovis and Portales school choirs won big Saturday at the New Mexico Athletic Association’s state choir contest in Rio Rancho.

Portales High School’s choir earned top honor in winning the Class 4-A State Choir Championship.

According to a Clovis Municipal Schools news release the Clovis High School chamber choir came in second in the 5-A competition earning a silver award in the “mixed choir” category, with a score of 94.3.  This is the third time the chamber choir has placed in the top three and marks the highest finish for the group at the state contest.

Earning a bronze medal in the 5-A treble choir category, the CHS women’s select choir placed 3rd, and finished with a score of 93. This is the fourth time the women’s select choir has placed in the top three at the state contest.

The CHS choirs are under the direction of Sean Galloway, assisted by Sarah Sena.
