Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
A wind driven range fire about 18 miles directly north of Clovis is apparently under control.
Clovis Fire Department battalion chief Chet Chenault described the blaze as large but it is not known at this time how much acreage was involved.
Chenault said the location of the fire was near the intersection of SR 209 and CR 29.
The firefighting continued as far north as CR 33, a distance of about four miles.
He said two Clovis Fire Department rigs along with department personnel were dispatched to the location.
Melrose, Grady, County Line, Texico and Pleasant Hill departments personnel and equipment were called in on the blaze.
Whether or not there was structure damage is not known, according to Chenault.
He does know there were apparently no injuries as the department had not dispatched an ambulance to the scene.
This is a developing story and we will have more information as it becomes available.
