HOBBS — Clovis High’s baseball team managed a run on four walks in the first inning of Thursday’s District 4-5A matchup against Hobbs.
But the Wildcats got little going after that. They finished with one hit — sophomore Will Jordan’s third-inning home run — and absorbed a 12-2 setback from the Eagles in a game called in the bottom of the sixth on the 10-run rule.
The teams were slated for a doubleheader on Friday night at Bell Park.
“We’ll just line it up and try to get better tomorrow, hopefully,” CHS coach Richard Cruce said after Thursday’s tilt. “It’s been a struggle for us the last few weeks.”
Clovis (5-13, 0-4 district) took a seven-game losing streak into Friday’s matchups.
Hobbs (17-4, 4-0) scored three times in the bottom of the first to stay in control. The Eagles plated three in the fifth and four in the sixth to end it.
Senior Bernie Socarras-Puig hit a solo home run in the second for the Eagles, while seniors Eryk McNabb and Colton Graham launched back-to-back solo shots in the sixth. Hobbs finished with 10 hits.
Graham went the distance on the mound, finishing with seven walks and 13 strikeouts.
