Pages past, April 27: Music professor retires from ENMU

On this date …

1972: Gillian Buchanan, associate professor in music at Eastern New Mexico University, had announced her retirement after 37 years on the faculty.

Buchanan had been at the Portales school since 1935, one year after Eastern New Mexico Junior College opened its doors to students.

University President Charles Meister recognized Buchanan for her “zest and love of life and the manner in which she exemplifies those qualities in her dedication to her work.”

Meister also praised Buchanan for her “unusual ability and attitudes in relationship to her students, and especially the many alumni whom she continues to counsel and whose progress is her deep concern.”
