Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
A few days ago we posted to our Facebook page: “Tell us about your mother. And be sure to include a picture.”
Here’s a sampling:
Teresa Irene Buckley of Clovis wrote of her mother, Evangelina Romero: My mom was a loving mom. She never worked outside the home, but she worked hard inside.
What I remember most is her making tortillas every day. I remember asking her if she would bake biscochitos for after-school. She always said she wouldn’t have time. But after school coming home, you could smell them.
I was blessed with her. I miss her very much. She helped me with my children.
RIP mama. I love you!
Clovis’ Trina Walley commented on her mother Sarita Valdez: My mama lost my dad on March 31 after 51 years of marriage.
She’s still standing and taking care of business! Her faith is immovable and her heart is pure and full of Jesus.
All her life she has put her children and grandchildren first. She deserves nothing but peace, love, and happiness.
Oh and bingo, of course!
Marlynda Gardley of Clovis wrote that she is very close to her mother, Dolores Chaparro: My mom has never left my side, my biggest supporter, always there for me, not only when I need her but also when I don’t.
When I fall and don’t think I can get up to move on, she picks me up, brushes me off and says ‘we can do this together.’
My mom is my best friend.
I am beyond blessed and honored to be her daughter. Happy Mother’s Day Mom. I love you!!
Cathi Espinoza Staley may live in Chicago now but plans on moving home to eastern New Mexico this summer. Staley remembers her mom, Julia Soliz, had her children at the top of her mind: [She] made sure we were always taken care of, first and foremost, more than anything.
No matter how many jobs she needed to have to give us a home or how tired she ever was. She always made sure we had the necessities.
Even from afar and living 2,000 miles away from my mom she still has always made sure that me and my brother back home are okay.
She might not have all the answers in life or for the bumps in the road, but she’s always there no matter what!
I love you mom! Thanks for always being here and caring for us no matter how hard it was!
Tammy Patterson is April Taylor’s mom. Taylor, a teacher at Clovis Christian School, is sure of one thing: My mom, Tammy Patterson, is the best mom EVER! Also the best grandma to my babies.
She loves us all with her whole self and is always there for our family.
She is an incredible example of a beautiful Christian woman.
She’s been through a lot of tough times but is a survivor. I love you Mom!
Arcilia Payen is Portales’ Veronica Payen Anaya’s mom: She is the most loving and caring person that I know.
She is the best mom and grandma and definitely one of the best cooks in the world.
Shannon Dawn Jackson of Clovis remembers her mom Donna Christine: She was barely 17 when I was born two months early.
When she was pressured to put me up for adoption (this was in the early 70’s) she refused.
She would get up early every morning to take the first bus to the hospital so she could spend all day with me, then take the last bus home. Every day for two months, she did this.
My Mom had her issues, but she was mine, and I loved her very much.
She was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers before she was 50. The disease took her life six years ago. I miss her every day.
Rachel Denise Page’s mother, Thelma Villa, moved to Clovis from Vaughn when she was 17. Villa just turned 76: And has been married to my father for 55 years!
She birthed 5 children but raised 6 (long story).
As a small child I remember her always working hard to provide for our family. She’d get off work and come home to cook and then clean over what we didn’t clean correctly, lol.
She had her own way of making us feel individually special.
Because of my mom, I know what the true meaning of unconditional love is.
Thank you Mom, and I hope and pray you have a blessed and Happy Mother’s Day! I love you!!
