Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Primary Candidates Forum Tuesday featuring most candidates running for Roosevelt County offices in the June 7 primary. The event will be at 6 p.m. at the Yam Theater in Portales.
In a news release about the event, chamber Executive Director Karl Terry wrote the evening will feature candidates in four contested races, including two Roosevelt County commission districts, the Roosevelt County Sheriff and Ninth Judicial District Judge.
Unopposed candidates in other races will also have an opportunity to briefly speak to the public at the start of the evening.
Terry said the only candidate on the ballot who has indicated he won’t be attending is Republican incumbent assessor Stevin Floyd.
Candidates will have two minutes for an opening statement and then moderator Donald Elder will ask three to five questions in each race with candidates alternating on order of answer. After the question-and-answer period, candidates will be allowed a two minute closing statement before the event moves to the next race.
Terry wrote, “This is a chance for voters to hear from their local candidates in a format that fits everyone’s busy schedule,” and adding, “We urge folks to attend, listen or log on.”
Terry said the public is invited to attend the forum. It will also be broadcast on radio station KSEL at 105.9 FM and streamed by the Portales High School Media Arts class on the Chamber’s Facebook page.
Terry said light refreshments will be served.
