KINGSVILLE, Texas — Eastern New Mexico University senior Malethabo Seema claimed third place on Saturday’s final day of competition in the three-day Lone Star Conference outdoor track and field championships, hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville.
ENMU’s women scored 27 team points to finish eighth out of 12 squads, while the men were 10th in an 11-team field with six points.
West Texas A&M swept team titles for the second consecutive year, the Buffaloes winning men’s 11 of 21 events en route to 214 team points while the Lady Buffs captured 10 of 21 events in claiming women’s team honors with 230 points.
Texas A&M-Commerce, which is moving to the Division I Southland Conference after this season, finished second in men’s competition with 161 points while Angelo State was third at 149. For the women, ASU was the runnerup with 194 points and Commerce came in third at 105.
Seema, who won the 800 in last year’s LSC outdoor meet and also took the event at this year’s indoor finals, ran a time of 2 minutes, 16.47 seconds on Saturday.
Sophomore Marta Pascoa earned fourth place for the Greyhounds in Friday’s women’s 3,000 steeplechase with a personal-best time of 11:39.53.
Also on Friday for the women, senior Aminata Kenyawani placed sixth in the 5,000 in 18:53.80 while senior Dorcas Kosgei was eighth in 19:01.03. Seema’s sister, Lethabo, came in seventh in the 1,500 in 4:55.11.
ENMU collected 10 team points on Thursday, with Kenyawani claiming third in the 10,000 in 39:44.87 and junior Arianna Hayde breaking her own school record en route to a fourth-place finish in triple jump with a distance of 39 feet, 5 inches.
On the men’s side, junior Kelvin Kipkemboi accounted for all of the Hounds’ points. He finished seventh in Thursday’s 10,000 in 33:27.62, and was fifth in Saturday’s 5,000 with a time of 15:40.88.
ENMU athletes will have a final opportunity to qualify for the 2022 NCAA Division II national championships on Sunday in West Texas A&M’s Last Chance Qualifier in Canyon, Texas.
