Fatal rollover near Portales

A one vehicle accident east of Portales early Monday morning resulted in the death of an Albuquerque man.

According to a news release from the New Mexico State Police Septimus Goyahkla Tarango, 22, was westbound on U.S. 70 near Roosevelt Road 3 around 2 a.m. Monday. Tarango was driving a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck when, for unknown reasons, the truck left the highway, rolled and ejected Tarango.

Tarango was then hit by a passing vehicle. He suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

State Police report Tarango did not appear to have been wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

This crash was investigated by the New Mexico State Police.
