Clovis Music Festival makes return

After a two year absence The Clovis Music Festival returns this week.

Clovis Curry County Chamber of Commerce executive director Ernie Kos is looking forward to Clovis being a destination spot during the event.

"We have people coming in from England, Germany, Switzerland, Canada," Kos said, "And of course from all over the USA."

The festival starts with a free Christian concert Thursday night at 7 p.m. with Danny Gokey who was a top finalist in season eight of the "American Idol" television show. The concert is free, seating is limited at Legacy Church at Llano Estacado Blvd. and Norris St.

Friday night's concert brings Southern rockers .38 Special to town, an act the music festival staff wanted to feature in 2020 but the COVID-19 pandemic forced cancellation. COVID restrictions put the festival off for another year.

The opening act for Friday night is a local group, Rouzter. The show starts at 7 p.m. at the Curry County Events Center.

Saturday night features music from La Maquineria Nortena. Opening act will be La Furia Del Bravo. The concert will be at the Curry County Events Center and starts at 7 p.m.

There is a price break on tickets. .38 Special tickets bought before Friday are $10 less than at the door. La Maquineria Nortena tickets purchase before Saturday are $10 less than at the door.

Kos encouraged people to come to the Norman and Vi Petty Rock 'n' Roll Museum at the chamber offices at 105 East Grand Ave., downtown Clovis.

Kos pointed out the museum is usually closed for lunch weekdays, not so this week. Also the museum is usually closed Saturdays but not this Saturday. This Saturday the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be tours of the Norman Petty recording studios during the music festival.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday the studio, just west of the intersection of Hull and Seventh streets at 1313 West Seventh St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

"And the Clovis High School classes of 1972 and 1982 are having their class reunions this weekend and the Rock 'n' Roll museum is central to those reunions," Kos said.

Another festival, Draggin' Main, began Sunday and continues through Saturday.
