1942: A “freak” Sunday-afternoon twister was the talk of Clovis.
The Clovis News-Journal reported the twister hit the Williamson Fruit Market at 820 W. Seventh St. about 4:15 p.m.
The big wind “tore off an awning made of wood, 18x24 feet in size. The awning was carried to the alley, passing over the heads of three small children who were playing in the backyard,” the newspaper reported.
No injuries were reported.
