Clovis City Commissioners voted to condemn seven city properties setting them up for possible demolition in the near future.
The action happened at Thursday's regular session of the commission as commissioners voted on abatement for 820 S. Prince St., 721 Edwards St., 4212 N. Prince St., 809 Cameo St., 817 Reid St., 1101 West St. and 2408 Cesar Chavez Dr.
Commissioners voted to approve a lease of 25 years for Clovis Solar LLC of over 600 acres of city land near the city landfill.
The land is presently being leased from the city by Harrison Family Farm for $21,000 a year.
Clovis Solar LLC will be leasing the land for as much as $489,000 a year at its highest rate during the life of the lease.
City attorney Jared Morris said there will be no adverse effect on the city landfill from Clovis Solar's use of the land.
Planned improvements to Sugar Beet Road on Clovis' east side draw closer as assistant city clerk Kelsey Knight told commissioners the city has received partial funding from the state for the road's improvement.
With $256,403 submitted by the state and the city chipping in over $85,000 there is a total of $341,871 ready to use on the project.
City manager Justin Howalt told commissioners AYSO soccer is no longer in Clovis as the organization has been unable to establish a board of directors.
Howalt noted that Clovis Youth Soccer Association remains active in the city.
Commissioners approved a new logo for the city zoo.
