Police cruiser hits McDonald's restaurant building

Clovis police on Monday released details of a July 4 auto accident in which a Clovis police cruiser hit the McDonald’s restaurant building at 2904 E. Mabry Dr.

Officer Taylor Ward rammed a corner of the south side of the McDonald’s building after swerving to avoid a car that had turned in front of him, according to the police accident report.

No injuries were reported.

According to the report:

A Lubbock woman was eastbound on Mabry Drive in her 2014 Nissan in the left turn lane when, she said, “she possibly had pushed on the brake and accelerator at the same time.”

Ward was westbound on Mabry approaching Schepps Boulevard when the Nissan turned in front of him.

Ward said he attempted to avoid the Nissan. He said he hit a large rock at the entryway to the drive, continued northbound until he “made contact with the building.”

There was no damage to the Nissan, moderate damage to the front of Ward’s 2016 police cruiser and slight damage to the exterior wall of the McDonald’s building.

The Lubbock woman was cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
