Warrant issued for shooting suspect

Authorities on Friday issued a warrant seeking the arrest of a 21-year-old man they believe shot Jesus Navarrete on Monday at the Clovis Apartments.

Marcus Lewis is charged with aggravated battery, felon in possession of a firearm and shooting at or from a motor vehicle.

He was not in custody Friday afternoon and police warned he "should be considered armed and dangerous."

Police said Navarrete was brought into Plains Regional Medical Center early Monday morning with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was in critical condition on Friday at University Medical Center in Lubbock.

A news release Friday stated police attempted to stop a vehicle they believe was occupied by Lewis late Thursday night. It was stopped near Redwood and Locust streets in Clovis.

"The vehicle then sped away as officers attempted to contact the driver," the release stated. "While fleeing officers, gunshots were fired from the suspect vehicle in the direction of officers attempting to get the car stopped.

"The car was lost in the area of 11th and Mitchell street. A short time later a crash was located at 13th and Pile that involved the suspect vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled before the car was located and is currently being sought. "

Police are asking anyone with information about Lewis call them at 575-769-1921 or anonymously at 575-763-7000.
