Police charge suspects in shooting incidents

***UPDATE: Suspect Marcus Lewis arrested Monday. See story here in online edition.***

An arrest warrant was issued Friday charging a juvenile in the July 9 shooting death of Victor Davila, 22, of Friona.

Also Friday, Clovis police announced a warrant had been issued seeking the arrest of a 21-year-old man they believe shot Jesus Navarrete on Monday at the Clovis Apartments. Marcus Lewis is charged with aggravated battery, felon in possession of a firearm and shooting at or from a motor vehicle in that case. He was not in custody Friday afternoon and police warned he "should be considered armed and dangerous."

The death of Davila and shooting of Navarrete are not believed to be related.

Police Capt. Robbie Telles said Davila was driving a black Dodge truck that rammed into a home in the 900 block of Connelly St. in the early morning hours of July 9. When he was removed from the vehicle by police and rescue personnel it was discovered he had a gunshot wound.

Davila was rushed to Plains Regional Medical Center where he died.

Also wounded in the Connelly Street incident were two women. Both women were inside their home at 921 Connelly when shot. Telles said police believe the women were not targeted during the shooting but were innocent bystanders.

Telles said an arrest warrant was issued for the juvenile who was not identified but has been charged on the warrant with the following: Murder in the second degree, two counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or occupied building resulting in great bodily harm. District Attorney Brian Stover said the juvenile is in custody.

Additionally in connection with Davila's death, a warrant was issued for Andrew Robles, 37. That warrant includes the charges of possession of a firearm or destructive device by a felon and receiving stolen property (a firearm).

Also, Alexis Edwards, 21, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm or destructive device by a felon and tampering with evidence.

Police said Navarrete was brought into Plains Regional Medical Center early Monday morning with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was in critical condition on Friday at University Medical Center in Lubbock.

According to a news release from Telles, spent shell casings were found near where Navarrete was shot and security video has been recovered from the apartments.

A news release Friday stated police attempted to stop a vehicle they believe was occupied by Lewis late Thursday night. It was stopped near Redwood and Locust streets in Clovis.

"The vehicle then sped away as officers attempted to contact the driver," the release stated. "While fleeing officers, gunshots were fired from the suspect vehicle in the direction of officers attempting to get the car stopped.

"The car was lost in the area of 11th and Mitchell streets. A short time later a crash was located at 13th and Pile that involved the suspect vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled before the car was located and is currently being sought. "
