Navarrette shooting suspect arrested

Clovis police have apprehended a suspect in the shooting of a Clovis man in the early morning hours of July 18 at Clovis Apartments.

Wounded in the shooting was Jesus Navarrette, 24, who was taken to a Lubbock hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest. Navarrette is listed in critical condition according to a news release from Clovis police Lt. Trevor Thron.

Named as a suspect in Navarrette's shooting is Marcus Lewis, 21, of Clovis.

According to a news release from Clovis police:

Monday around 10:30 a.m. Clovis agents of the Region 5 Drug Task Force, along with security threat intelligence officers from the state probation and parole office located Lewis in the area of Ninth and Hull streets.

A foot chase occurred as Lewis ran off with officers in pursuit. During the chase Lewis allegedly pulled a pistol from his waistband and threw it as he ran, according to the report.

Lewis was captured shortly after and arrested.

Lewis is being held at the Curry County Adult Detention Center. He is charged with aggravated battery, felon in possession of a firearm and shooting at or from a motor vehicle.

Lewis is believed to be the driver involved in a vehicle chase Thursday night in Clovis.

That incident started when a vehicle was stopped near the intersection of Redwood and Locust streets in Clovis.

The vehicle sped away as officers approached the car.

With officers in pursuit, gunshots were fired from the suspect vehicle in the direction of officers who were attempting to stop the car.

Officers lost sight of the vehicle, near 11th and Mitchell Street, and shortly after, the suspect vehicle crashed into parked vehicles at 13th and Pile. The driver of the vehicle fled before the car was located. A search warrant was executed on the vehicle and a firearm was found inside.
