Annual Roosevelt County Fair gearing up for 2022

PORTALES -- The Roosevelt County Fair has been happening annually since 1906. So says the fair’s Facebook page.

For 2022, it all starts Tuesday. There’s a pork chop breakfast that day from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Jake Lopez building.

Fair board president Sheila Hays said the fair will feature carnival rides and games from Wright’s Amusements, fair food, livestock shows, home art exhibits, kids events and more.

Wednesday there is a “Night of Worship” on “the slab” at the fairgrounds. There will also be a roping event starting at 6 p.m.

Thursday features an antique tractor show starting at 9 a.m. in front of the Jake Lopez building. Kids games begin at 6 p.m.

Thursday night music will be by The Curry County Outlaws.

Friday night there will be the Junior Livestock Show and Sale and a barrel racing event.

Friday night music will be by Will Bannister.

Hays said Saturday will feature a barbecue cookoff in a tent by the main gate and a lineman’s demonstration.

Saturday will also be Kid’s Day including a Kiwanis Pet Show, a stick horse race, a turtle race and other events including a greased pig race.

Saturday night’s music will be provided by The Stateline Band with guests Neal Delk and Chek Rippee.

Sunday night music will be provided by Conjunto Bengala from Hobbs.

All events are being held at the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds at 705 Lime St. in Portales.
