Clovis man convicted of meth trafficking, sentenced to ten years

Thomas Ferguson, 37, of Clovis, was convicted Monday of trafficking methamphetamine, a second degree felony.

Ninth Judicial District Attorney Brian Stover reports district judge Drew Tatum presided over the plea hearing and sentenced Ferguson to ten years in the Department of Corrections and a $10,000 fine.

In a news release, Stover reports In May 2021, Adult Probation and Parole officers located Ferguson during a search of a home. A search warrant was completed by officers from the Region 5 Drug Task Force and 84 grams of methamphetamine was seized.

The case was prosecuted by Nicholas Rossi, assistant district attorney.

Ferguson was represented by Portales criminal defense attorney, Eric Dixon.

Dixon said he and his clien were getting ready for trial Monday when the prosecutor offered an Alford Plea.

"An Alford plea is not admitting guilt," Dixon said, Ferguson maintains his innocence. "He's just accepting the plea to get the matter over with."

In the plea all charges but one were dismissed, Dixon said.

Dixon believes Ferguson will probably be out in two to three years and "Ferguson can get back to work."

"We chalk it up to a win for the defendant," Dixon said.
