Clovis police deal with alleged perpetrator of school shooting threat

Clovis police, with help from personnel with the Roswell field office of the FBI, located the juvenile who sent out a shooting threat via Snapchat against Clovis schools Friday morning.

Clovis Police Lt. Trevor Thron reports in a news release the Clovis Police Department began receiving tips in reference to a threat of a shooting that was supposed to occur at the Clovis Schools Friday. The original threat was being spread through social media and the validity of this threat was investigated by the Clovis Police Department.

The Clovis Police Department and Clovis Municipal Schools take these threats extremely seriously, according to Thron.

Thron said Clovis Police Department Detectives made contact with the juvenile student and his mother at Clovis High School.

After speaking to the juvenile and his mother, Thron said the mother had told her son about threats at the Muleshoe schools during the evening hours Thursday and told her son to be careful at school.

Thron said the juvenile in turn put out a Snapchat to his friends telling them about the threat but stated the threat was made toward Clovis Schools.

Thron said the investigation will be presented to the Ninth Judicial District Attorney's Office for review for the charge of interference with the educational process.
