Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The official groundbreaking for Clovis' new Hillcrest Senior Life Center is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the new facility's location at 1704 E. Seventh St.
Funding for the new center, valued at $7.66 million not including $660,000 for new kitchen equipment, was made possible by area voters approving "Bond A" in the November 2020 election.
The 2020 Capital Projects General Obligation Bond Act authorized the issuance and sale of senior citizen facility construction, improvement and equipment acquisition bonds. Voters OK'd just under $33.3 million for the bond.
A July 7 groundbreaking was held at the site of the center when Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham came to town and announced her office was putting $1.5 million into the project's funding.
The center will feature activities that include 8-ball pool and snooker, bingo, virtual bingo, cooking classes, exercise classes, educational presentations, a variety of games, karaoke, movie days, sewing, crafts, social events, annual events and more according to city officials.
