Lady Coyotes post win over PHS

PORTALES — Roswell High dominated Games 2 and 4 and posted a 25-20, 25-11, 21-25, 25-11 victory over Portales High’s volleyball team on Thursday night at the Ram Athletic Center.

PHS tried to get back in it after winning the third set, but the Lady Coyotes (4-2) quickly re-established control and won going away.

“What we’re struggling with is consistency,” Lady Rams coach Jacki Bailey said. “We’re still going through some growing pains. We have to be able to execute in every game.”

Junior Audrey Paden had six kills and 13 digs for PHS, while junior Alondra Acosta collected nine digs and a team-high four aces.

Portales’ next outing is on Tuesday at Ruidoso.

Meantime, Clovis High’s volleyball match at Lubbock Estacado was postponed on Tuesday due to a scheduling mixup, and has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. (MDT) on Tuesday in Lubbock.

Las Vegas Robertson 4, Portales 1 (girls soccer, Thursday) — At the Portales High pitch, four players scored a goal apiece for the unbeaten (5-0) Lady Cardinals, who led just 2-1 at halftime before pulling away from the Lady Rams.

Portales (0-4-1) was slated to host Alamogordo on Tuesday, but that game was canceled.

Alamogordo 5, Portales 1 (boys soccer, Tuesday) — The visiting Tigers (4-3-1) got two goals from senior Zachary Sell and were in control after building a 3-0 halftime lead at PHS.

The Rams (1-3) and Lady Rams were scheduled to host West Las Vegas on Saturday. Their next outings are on Monday for the boys at Clovis and on Thursday for the girls at Ruidoso.
