Motorcyclist severely injured, transported to Lubbock hospital

A motorcyclist apparently fleeing a Clovis Police officer sustained severe head injuries in a wreck and was transported to a Lubbock hospital early Saturday morning.

Clovis Police lieutenant Trevor Thron reports in a news release at about 2:15 a.m. Saturday officers were dispatched to the area of the Grand Avenue Apartment Complex in the 2100 block of West Grand Avenue on a report of a motorcycle causing a disturbance.

Thron reports once in the vicinity of Jones Street and Grand Avenue an officer saw a motorcycle traveling east on Grand.

The Officer made a U-turn on Jones Street, and turned on his emergency lights to attempt a traffic stop, the motorcycle increased its speed dramatically, continuing east on Grand. Shortly after this, the officer observed a disturbance of lights near the area of Grand as it curves toward 1st Street.

Officers located the motorcycle driver, identified as Saul Bejarano,23, and a blue motorcycle in the curve on the westbound lanes of Grand Avenue near the intersection of First Street.

Thron reports Bejarano was not wearing a helmet and sustained a significant head injury.

Clovis Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene and Bejarano was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Bejarano was then transported to a Lubbock area hospital for further treatment.

The Major Crash Team has been activated and is investigating this vehicular crash.
