Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Great American Cleanup set for Saturday

Clovis’ bi-annual “Trek for Trash” cleanup is this Saturday.

The event is hosted by the city of Clovis Parks and Recreation Department and New Mexico Clean and Beautiful programs.

A news release from Clovis city manager’s office says “Trek For Trash” cleanup is “a great opportunity to beautify Clovis.”

The news release says the city has been participating in the Trek for Trash program for over 20 years.

Trek for Trash headquarters Saturday will be the Parks & Recreation Department at 500 Sycamore Street in Clovis.

“Trek for Trash is part of a community-wide effort to help keep Clovis beautiful,” Parks and Recreation Director Russell Hooper said.

Last year, Trek for Trash brought in 212 volunteers who collected 333 bags of trash which weighed in at 37.76 tons of garbage.

As part of the event, the landfill will be free from Friday at noon to Monday at noon.

Clovis residents’ tires are allowed, with a maximum of 9 per household.

Trek for Trash registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, at the Parks and Recreation Department, located at Fifth and Sycamore streets.

Participants will register, grab their t-shirts and clean-up supplies and be assigned routes to pick up trash throughout the city.

Donuts, water, and a grab-n-go hotdog lunch will be provided.

The total volunteer time for participants is four hours. All volunteers are encouraged to register online at https://www.cityofclovis.org/cleanup/.
