Wildcat band named 'best in class' at Midland event

The Clovis Wildcat Marching Band was named the best band in its class and second overall in competition against 26 Texas bands and one from Oklahoma on Saturday.

The band won top place in its class for musical performance, visual impact and general effect, Bill Allred, the Wildcat Band’s director, said.

The Wildcat band competed in the Bands of America West Texas Regionals Saturday in Midland, Texas, and the competition included band from Fort Worth, and other major Texas cities, Allred said.

In the past month or so the Wildcat marching band has competed against 111 bands, altogether, Allred said. and has brought home top honors in two Bands of America competitions.

On Oct. 1, The Clovis High School Wildcat Band came in First Place Regional Grand Champions at the Bands of America Regionals held at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.

On Sept. 17, the Wildcat band won first place overall and top honors for outstanding music performance, outstanding visual performance and outstanding general effect, at Bands of America competition in Las Cruces against bands from New Mexico, Texas and Arizona.
