Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
CLOVIS – Parts of Seventh Street, one of Clovis' significant thoroughfares, is going to be closed from Monday until February next year.
According to a news release from the Clovis city manager's office, Seventh Street will be closed from North Prince Street eastward to Maple Street – six blocks -- for "Phase III" of the street's reconstruction plan.
Megan Darrow of the city manager's office said the work is going to be similar to the work done on Seventh between Maple and Norris streets.
Darrow said K. Barnett & Sons Construction will be widening the street, adding a turn lane, sidewalks, putting in new curbs and gutters, relocating a water line and doing underground utility work that includes a new storm drain. Other modifications are upgraded street lighting and Americans with Disabilities Act improvements.
City Manager Justin Howalt confirmed the project will include the addition of bicycle lanes.
Motorists will see a change with the signal at Seventh and Prince streets; it will be changed to a flashing signal Monday: yellow flash for Prince Street and red flash for Seventh Street.
Drivers are encouraged to use Sixth and Eighth Streets for residential and business access during the closure.
Area residents are also asked not to park personal vehicles along the closed section of Seventh Street.
