ENMU sets town hall for golf

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University has scheduled a town hall with athletic director Paul Weir and assistant AD Jose Montoya regarding the addition of men’s and women’s golf to the school’s athletic program.

The call will take place via zoom at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a release from ENMU. Anyone interested in receiving the link invite is asked to reach out to [email protected]

Participants in the call will be asked to express ideas on how the department can best integrate golf into the current group of sports at ENMU, and how it will benefit the school and the community.

“After careful evaluation, we feel that exploring a men’s and women’s golf program here at ENMU can not only present fantastic athletic opportunities, but serve our wonderful institution as a whole,” Weir said. “Merging athletics and our campus remains one of the top priorities for my time here and this is another step in that direction.”

ENMU this year re-installed men’s soccer after a two-year hiatus.

“Adding men’s soccer this fall has created tremendous benefits,” Weir said. “Our win over (then-)No. 8 Midwestern State was fantastic, but for our student-athletes to contribute almost half of the student enrollment increase for the university speaks volumes.”

Currently, the athletic department sponsors baseball, football, softball, volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, rodeo and soccer, and coed Esports.
