Curry County continues to accept American flags needing retirement

The Curry County administration has issued a news release letting county residents know if they’d like to properly dispose of an American flag the county offers such a service.

“Curry County believes in the proper disposal of the American flag,” reads the release. “When a flag is worn, tattered, ripped or soiled beyond repair, it should be retired and disposed of properly.”

Through a partnership between the National Association of Counties, the National Flag Foundation, and the National Sheriff’s Association, Curry County has a flag disposal box in the County Administration Complex, 417 Gidding St. in Clovis.

The box is in the lobby. Residents may drop off their old, tattered, and torn flags for proper, dignified, retirement and disposal.

“As we approach Veterans Day, Curry County is proud that we are able to continue to provide the residents an avenue to respectfully and properly retire and dispose of their flags,” Curry County Manager Lance Pyle said.

The County requests that all flags be folded before being placed in the Official U.S. Flag Disposal Box.
