In the days leading up to Veterans Day Friday and Clovis’ Veterans Day parade day Saturday, a number of area veterans associations and fraternal organizations will be hosting events.
John Montaño, known in Clovis for organizing parades and events, said the events known an “open house” feature food and are open to the public.
This evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. American Legion Post 117 at 2800 W. Grand Ave., is hosting an open house.
Clovis’ Elks Lodge 1244 at 218 Sycamore St. is hosting an open house Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
According to Tom Creehan of American Legion Post 25 at 2400 W. Seventh St. the post will be hosting a free Veterans Day Breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
“It’s primarily for veterans but it’s free to everybody,” Creehan said.
A Veterans Day service will be held in Portales at the Memorial Building, 200 E. Seventh St., at 10:30 a.m.
Clovis’ Veterans Day Parade lines up Saturday morning at the Hilltop Shopping Plaza just north of the intersection of 21st and Main Streets.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. heading south on Main Street.
“It’s about honoring veterans,” Montaño said of the parade. “We still have room for people who want to be in it. Call me at 760-4530 or the Chamber of Commerce at 763-3435.”
After the parade awards will be handed out at VFW Post 3280 at the corner of Grand and Mitchell Streets from noon to 4 p.m.
