A Clovis school teacher was injured Tuesday when he tried to separate students fighting at the Freshman Academy, according to Clovis police Capt. Roman Romero.
The teacher, whom Romero declined to name, was taken to Plains Regional Medical Center due to his injuries. Romero provided no additional information on the 56-year-old teacher’s condition. Police declined to release reports on the incident.
Romero said police were at the Freshman Academy about 11:40 a.m. Tuesday for an unrelated “public affray.” While there, the responding officer heard people yelling “call an ambulance” from the school cafeteria.
Once in the cafeteria, the officer saw the teacher on the floor, initially unresponsive, with blood pooled around his head, Romero said.
The officer, who notified dispatch to send an ambulance to the school, saw a laceration to the teacher’s head and began first aid procedures, Romero said.
The officer reported two juvenile females had been in a fight and the teacher was injured as he tried to break it up. The girls, both 14, were cited and referred to the Juvenile Probation Office, Romero said.
