RICHARDSON, Texas — Junior wide receiver Asa Wondeh represented Eastern New Mexico University on the All-Lone Star Conference first-team offense in football selections announced on Thursday by the league office.
Wondeh was also named the league’s newcomer of the year.
ENMU garnered 10 honorable mention selections, including junior tackle and Clovis High grad Hunter St. John, who was also named the LSC’s academic player of the year.
Wondeh caught 52 passes for 929 yards and seven touchdowns this season for the Greyhounds, who went 3-8 overall and 2-7 in the LSC. He had two touchdown catches each in wins over New Mexico Highlands and Simon Fraser.
Also named honorable mention for ENMU were sophomore tight end Bryzai White, junior running back Isaiah Tate, sophomore placekicker Cooper Hamilton, junior defensive tackle Kevin McCracken, senior defensive end Aseli Finau, sophomore linebacker Beau Burns, junior linebacker Caden Ochoa, senior safety Cameron Santa Cruz and junior safety Zerrian Meander.
League champion Angelo State (11-0, 9-0 LSC) had six first-team picks on offense and seven on defense. The Rams also claimed five special awards from the league, with junior Nate Omayebu earning offensive back of the year honors from the second consecutive season.
Other special awards for ASU included junior tackle Jake Long earning offensive lineman of the year, sophomore cornerback Andrew Pitts claiming the defensive back of the year award and coach Jeff Girsch notching coach of the year for the second time.
Texas-Permian Basin senior M.J. Link captured two individual awards — offensive player of the year and receiver of the year. Rounding out the awards were Midwestern State running back Devin Cross, offensive freshman of the year; Western Oregon senior Jaylin Parnell, linebacker of the year, and UTPB tackle Victor Idusuyi, defensive freshman of the year.
St. John headlined a group of 11 athletes recognized for their work in the classroom and on the field. A business major, he is the fifth ENMU player to claim the top honor with a perfect grade point average.
