Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The reception for the Clovis Community College (CCC) Student Art Exhibition is Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the college's Eula Mae Edwards Museum and Gallery.
Gallery Director Stanley Bermudez said there will be snacks and refreshments.
And the art?
"These works are very creative and diverse," Bermudez said.
As well as the Gallery Director, Bermudez serves as the college's head of the Art Department, Instructor of Art and Art Collection overseer.
"This was supposed to be a juried art competition between CCC, Mesalands Community College (in Tucumcari) and Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU)," Bermudez said. "We didn't have a lot of submissions, none from Mesalands, so we decided to have a student show."
Bermudez said the show features works from CCC and ENMU students.
"It still ended up being a good show," Bermudez said.
Bermudez said there are works in photography from ENMU and CCC, charcoal drawings, two-dimensional works done by hand and ink drawings.
"An ENMU student submitted one of his paintings, also a drawing of a Native American woman attached to a tree trunk and a wonderful drawing of Robin Williams," Bermudez said.
Asked about his own works Bermudez said he paints with acrylics.
"Very colorful, very bright," he said. "My work reflects my Latino tropical heritage."
The CCC Student Art Exhibition opened Nov. 18 and is on display until Jan. 19.
